LT and LV border regions are rich in natural water objects, which are not fully adapted to the tourism needs, as well for persons with disabilities. Water objects have a great potential to become eco-tourism destination in the region, however lack of tourism products and common eco-tourism routes is observed.
The project is aimed to develop attractiveness of the region through joint improvement of the tourist recreation sites near water objects, to establish new eco-tourism products and services thus increasing number of visitors to the Programme area. Wide range joint activities are planned for its promotion: sustainable improvement of recreational infrastructure and purchased of water equipment, created 3 joint ecotourism packages and 1APP about water quality, organized 4 tourism festivals and 2 adventure camps, capacity building of involved tourism stakeholders and marketing activities.
The cross border aspect of the new eco-tourism promotion is that existing competences in each country will be transformed to creation of joint tourism products, services and solutions for the development of natural heritage objects. The new approach in context of development and improvement of tourism services foresee investments according to needs of handicapped persons. Sabalunkos campsite in Sartai and Grazute Regional Parks will become the first fully adjusted site for handicapped in Lithuania. Use of newest interactive ITC tools and equipment for water tourism activities like SUP boards, water bikes, pontoons, wheel boat and beach wheel chairs for handicapped persons etc. for water ecotourism will bring new possibilities to the Programme area municipalities, visitors.
