TWO NEW INTERACTIVE EXHIBITIONS IN PANEVĖŽYS DISTRICT (LT)

On 22 December this year, two modern digital exhibitions will be unveiled to visitors in the Panevėžys District. They have been created within the Interreg VI-A Latvia–Lithuania Programme 2021–2027 project LL-00100 “Digital Craft Tourism” (D-tour). The new exhibitions include a contemporary flax exhibition at the Flax Museum, located in the historic Stultiškis Mill, and a new exhibition of traditional folk musical instruments at the Upytė Traditional Crafts Centre.

These revitalised cultural sites will enhance the appeal of the Panevėžys District as a cultural tourism destination and offer visitors new, engaging experiences.

Modernised Flax Museum exhibition

At the Flax Museum, visitors will encounter a renewed exhibition dedicated to flax growing, processing, and Aukštaitija belt weaving. The display has been designed using video, audio, and other interactive solutions, making it both informative and visually compelling. It presents centuries-old craft traditions in a fresh, contemporary format.

Significant improvements have also been made to the museum’s infrastructure: windows and doors have been replaced, a heating system has been installed, floors and sewage systems have been renovated, and a special lift for people with disabilities has been installed.

Interactive folk musical instrument exhibition in Upytė

The project’s second exhibition is located on the second floor of the granary at the Upytė Traditional Crafts Centre. Here, visitors can not only explore but also try out various folk musical instruments from the Panevėžys region – both digitally and in their natural acoustic form.

The creators aimed to design an environment where making music is easy, modern, and inclusive. The exhibition naturally complements the long-standing traditions of the local ensemble and enriches the craft centre’s already diverse audience.

Sustainable solutions and long-term value

Both exhibitions were developed by the architectural team MB Baukas. Their goal was to create displays that remain relevant and engaging over time, while also allowing for the easy addition of new stories, technologies, and interactive elements whenever needed.

The project “Digital crafts tourism” (acronym D-tour; No LL-00100) is co-funded by the European Union. The project is implemented within the Interreg VI-A Latvia-Lithuania Programme 2021-2027.

The total project budget is EUR 697 275.  The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund with EUR 557 820.

Interreg VI-A Latvia–Lithuania Programme 2021–2027 aims to enhance the sustainable and cohesive socioeconomic development of its regions by fostering competitiveness and attractiveness for residents, students, workers, and visitors alike, thereby creating environments conducive to living, studying, working, and visiting.
