The autumn event of the “Busy Bee” project focused on the future and new opportunities. In the Youth Garden, next to the new schoolchildren’s pathway under construction, students planted various plants. These new green spaces will delight bees as early as next year – when the puddles are gone, the works on the “Yellow Brick Road” are completed, and the nearby Bee Park is established. There is still plenty of room for future ideas, as only one side of the hill has been planted so far.
The educational event organised by Kuršėnai Pavenčiai School–Multifunctional Centre began with a presentation and practical activities led by landscape designer and head of MB “Žiedų svajos”, Ilona Valuckienė. The students learned about the importance of bees and other pollinators, how to create pollinator-friendly green spaces, and how to select and plant suitable plants.
After a refreshment break, the young participants were invited to take part in the practical activities. They arranged the plants according to the landscaping plan, planted them and covered the soil with mulch.
The result already looks wonderful – a bumblebee has even discovered the new plants!
The educational event was organised as part of the 2021–2027 Interreg VI-A Latvia–Lithuania Cross-Border Cooperation Programme, Priority 4 “Economic Potential of Tourism and Heritage”, within the project “Enhancing Tourism Through the Development of the Bee Route from Kuršėnai to Ventspils” (Project code: LL-00198, acronym: Busy Bee).
