As part of the project’s implementation activities, a set of modern digital solutions has been successfully introduced to strengthen tourism promotion and accessibility in the Selonia region. These solutions include the launch of a new thematic tourism website and the installation of digital interactive tourism information stands, together creating a comprehensive, user‑friendly system for exploring the region.
A Central Tourism Website Connecting the Region
A new thematic tourism website has been developed and launched as a central digital platform bringing together tourism information from the three municipalities of the Selonia region — Aizkraukle (LV), Jēkabpils (LV) and Biržai (LT). The website allows local residents and international visitors to easily explore the region and plan their travels using one unified source of up‑to‑date information.
The platform features dedicated sections for each municipality, presenting their unique tourism assets, natural landscapes, cultural heritage, planned events and other visitor opportunities. By connecting tourism information across administrative and national borders, the website presents Selonia as a single, diverse and interconnected tourism destination. It reduces the need to search multiple sources and enables visitors to conveniently compare destinations and combine experiences when planning their journeys.
Digital Interactive Information Stands at Tourism Information Points
In parallel with the website, digital interactive tourism information stands have been installed at tourism information points in Jaunjelgava and Nereta. These visually striking installations are not only design elements but also fully functional digital solutions that significantly enhance access to tourism information.
Similarly to the website, the stands provide visitors with easy access to up‑to‑date, engaging and multilingual tourism content, including the opportunity to explore information outside the opening hours of nearby tourism information centres. They complement the work of tourism staff by offering a modern, user‑friendly self‑service solution for discovering the Selonia cultural and historical region.
Interactive Map and Themed Travel Routes
One of the key features of the new digital solutions is an interactive tourism map, displaying tourism objects and services across the project area. The map includes:
- tourism information centres,
- sightseeing and cultural heritage sites,
- accommodation options,
- countryside goods and local product locations,
- catering establishments,
- leisure activities and experiences available in the counties.
Each object is accompanied by detailed information, helping users quickly identify nearby attractions and plan routes or longer stays according to their interests.
To further support trip planning and inspire exploration, both the website and the information stand also offer a selection of themed travel routes. These routes connect tourism objects across municipalities and highlight cultural, natural and recreational themes, encouraging visitors to discover lesser‑known attractions and enjoy longer, more meaningful visits.
Interactive, Cross‑Border Content Tailored to Visitors’ Needs
Using intuitive touchscreen interfaces, the digital information stands offer self‑service access to detailed information about:
- the nature and landscapes of Selonia,
- historical manors and former inns,
- craftsmen and creative personalities,
- religious and sacred sites,
- writers and notable families,
- antique collectors and their collections,
- associations and active community initiatives,
- as well as the historical background and cultural heritage of the region.
While the stands offer a more stationary point of information, the same cross‑border content can be accessed on the website while travelling or at home. Visitors can also access information about Biržai in Lithuania, as the Biržai district forms part of the Selonia cultural and historical region, highlighting Selonia as a shared cultural space beyond national borders.
Content can be updated in real time, ensuring accuracy, relevance and seasonal adaptability. Special attention has been given to accessibility and usability, including multilingual access and clear navigation.
Supporting Smart and Sustainable Tourism Development
Together, the newly created website and digital interactive information stands support the development of smart and sustainable tourism by reducing reliance on printed materials, improving access to information, and strengthening the overall visitor experience.
At the same time, tourism staff are enabled to focus more on personalised consultations, complex visitor inquiries and high‑value services, while digital tools handle general information needs.
The implementation of these digital solutions represents an important step toward a more innovative, visitor‑friendly and digitally accessible tourism infrastructure in the Selonia region, strengthening cross‑border cooperation and enhancing the visibility and competitiveness of tourism in Aizkraukle, Jēkabpils and Biržai regions.
