Opening of Ski Track and Last SnowPower project event in Daugavpils (Latvia) – ACTIVE TOGETHER!

On January 18 at 11:00 a.m., a large-scale event “Active Together” will take place at the “Dzintariņš” sports base in Daugavpils (Latvia), marking the successful completion of the project “Sustainable Cross-Border Cooperation for the Development of Winter Tourism,” SnowPower and Opening event for new tourism offer – ski track in Daugavpils, LV.  The Tourism Department of the Daugavpils Municipality invites everyone to enjoy the joy of movement in the fresh air and to learn more about the achievements within the project in the tourism sector.

The activities implemented within the project have made a significant contribution to strengthening winter tourism infrastructure and cross-border cooperation, creating a solid foundation for long-term development – build infrastructure for artificial snow making and successful cooperation with Visaginas municipality in Lithuania.

The “Active Together” event will be a diverse celebration of sports and winter tourism for families, aimed at promoting physical activity and a healthy lifestyle while also highlighting sustainable leisure opportunities in our city. The activities will be suitable for various age groups and interests, including competitions for professional athletes as well as exciting winter activities for families with children. Special attention will be given to ensuring that the event takes place in a friendly, safe, and inclusive environment where every participant feels welcome regardless of age, experience, or physical fitness level.

A special place in the event program is dedicated to the People’s Skiing Event (Tautas slēpojums in Latvian), whose goal is to promote skiing as an active leisure activity and a health-enhancing sport. Participants will jointly aim to ski as many laps as possible within two hours, with one lap measuring 2.7 km. Anyone who enjoys active recreation and has skis in good technical condition is invited to take part. Registration for the activity will take place from 10:00 to 10:40 a.m., with the start on the track at 11:00 a.m. At the end of the event, awards will be presented to participants who complete the highest number of laps in the women’s and men’s categories, as well as surprise prizes, including awards for the largest family, the oldest and youngest participant, the most colorful costume, and other nominations.

To fully enjoy all the prepared activities and winter fun, visitors are encouraged to bring their own equipment—skis, sleds, and other winter sports gear. This closing event will serve as an excellent opportunity to evaluate the project results firsthand and to strengthen the local community by coming together in shared activities.
