Date: 27. September 2018
Time: 8:30 am - 3:00 pm
Šilagalio village, Lithuania
On September 27, 2018, in Panevėžys, Lithuania, will held Stakeholder workshop – discussion “Small hydropower plant – friend or threat?”.
To ensure better understanding of project idea and current results workshop will be organized in two parallel sessions – in Latvian and in Lithuanian languages. Project partners will explain the idea of project, hydropower management problems and challenges in legislation, as well as will explain how hydromorphological units are made by mapping case study rivers, and will present first results from modelling and assessment – how to estimate ecological flows. The second part of workshop will be common for all participants. We will inform about situation in neighboring countries (in Latvia and Lithuania).
Flow regime regulation is one of the most significant pressures in Latvian-Lithuanian (LV-LT) trans-boundary river basins, where about 100 small hydropower plants (HPP) are installed and flow regime modifications are made. Hydrological regime regulation for hydropower production dramaticaly impact the biotic composition and sustainability of ecosystems. However estimations of ecological flow have been carried out neither in Latvia, nor in Lithuania. Methodology for estimation of ecological flows will be elaborated in project ECOFLOW, as well as will be prepared recommendations for changes in legislation regarding ecological flows.
For detailed information on Stakeholder workshop, please contact project manager in Latvia – Linda Fibiga (e-mail: email@example.com, phone: +371 67770027) or project coordinator in Lithuania – Jurate Kriauciuniene (e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org, phone: +370 37401962).
