At the end of October together with Lithuanian colleagues from Šiauli Administration of the Fire and Rescue Department of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania, we went on an experience exchange visit to the rescue service of the South Karelia region in Finland.
We had the opportunity to walk around several fire and rescue services, review and explore their technical equipment, as well as on the second day of the visit we visited the largest peat mining site in the region.
During the exchange visit, we gained useful information about their good practices and experience in fighting peat fires. The newly acquired information about various methods and procedures will be useful for us to develop our abilities to extinguish this type of fire in Latvia and Lithuania in the future.
