A new interactive solution is now available in the partner libraries of the project “Empowering Everyone: Advancing Family Digital Activity Hubs in Latvia and Lithuania” (LL-00201 DigiAll), implemented under the Interreg VI-A Latvia–Lithuania Programme 2021–2027. The interactive book suitcase invites visitors to discover literature in a new and engaging way, encouraging reading and introducing library services through technology and sound.
The suitcase contains coded cards featuring excerpts from works by Lithuanian and Latvian authors. By selecting a card and placing it in the reading zone, users can listen to an audio excerpt through the integrated sound system, while the screen displays information about the author and their work. In this way, literature becomes not only something to read, but also something to hear, experience and explore.
One of the most important features of the interactive book suitcase is its content management system. This allows libraries to update and adapt the content according to different themes, audiences and needs. The suitcase can therefore be used not only to present Lithuanian and Latvian literature, but also to introduce other topics such as culture, history, language learning or materials relevant to different communities. This makes it a flexible and evolving educational tool rather than a fixed display.
The interactive book suitcase is also mobile, which means it can be used not only in the library itself, but also at events, in community spaces or in smaller branch libraries. This helps bring literature closer to people where they live, learn and gather, while also reaching wider target groups.
The solution is especially valuable for creating more inclusive library services. Audio recordings, clearly presented information and the possibility to adapt content for different audiences help build a more open, welcoming and accessible learning environment for everyone.
The interactive book suitcase shows that today’s library can be much more than a place for books. It can also be a creative, modern and flexible space where literature is presented in a lively, attractive and engaging way.
