Scientific diving enables researchers to make direct observations, document underwater environments and collect data on marine and freshwater ecosystems. Researchers from the Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology (LHEI) presented their experience in underwater research carried out in Latvia at the 9th European Conference on Scientific Diving (ECSD9), held from 15 to 19 June in Ponta Delgada on São Miguel Island, the Azores, Portugal.
The conference brought together scientists, scientific divers and underwater research specialists from across Europe to share the latest research, methods and practical experience in the study of marine and freshwater ecosystems.
LHEI researcher Ieva Bārda presented in person, while scientific assistant Anete Fedorovska presented a poster on work carried out within the project “Promoting the Protection of Geological Structures in Latvia and Lithuania (Geosites)” (LL-00244).
Participation in ECSD9 provided an opportunity to introduce the international scientific community to research carried out at LHEI and to Latvia’s experience in underwater research. The conference also enabled the exchange of knowledge on the latest research methods and technical solutions, while fostering new contacts for future international cooperation.
