With the summer season now at its halfway mark, things are far from slowing down for the Latvia-Lithuania Programme team and our projects. While beneficiaries continue to carry out scheduled activities, our team is actively preparing for a busy autumn – including the launch of a new Call for Project Proposals, seminars for potential applicants, the meeting of the Monitoring Committee, Interreg Cooperation Day, and preparation for the 2028-2032 programming period.
Programme at midpoint
The Programme has reached its midpoint, while the projects continue to actively implement activities, deliver results, and strengthen cooperation across Latvia and Lithuania.
Currently, 41 projects are under active implementation, while 26 projects have already completed their activities. This summer, the 14 projects approved under the 3rd Call are preparing to start or have started implementation of joint activities related to adaptation to climate change and protection of nature, biodiversity and green infrastructure. To date, projects have reported activities amounting to EUR 11.51 million of ERDF funding from the Programme allocation of EUR 30.41* million ERDF (*data excludes the 3rd Call).
REGIOSTARS Awards 2026
We are delighted to share exciting news with our programme community! The project Historicroad: Raudondvaris–Bauska has been selected as one of the 25 finalists from 274 applications submitted from across Europe for the prestigious REGIOSTARS Awards 2026.
The project has been nominated in the category “A Europe Closer to Citizens”. Implemented under the Interreg V-A Latvia–Lithuania Programme 2014–2020, Historicroad: Raudondvaris–Bauska addressed a common challenge faced by cultural heritage sites: how to remain vibrant, attractive, and accessible beyond the peak summer tourism season.
The REGIOSTARS People’s Choice Award is decided entirely by citizens across Europe. Starting from 3 September, everyone will have the opportunity to vote online for Historicroad: Raudondvaris–Bauska and help showcase the project’s achievements on the European stage. We will share further details and the voting link closer to the launch of the public vote.
New colleagues in the Joint Secretariat
This summer, we welcomed two new colleagues to the Joint Secretariat. Senior experts and project managers Zanda Zuke and Danutė Kondrotiene have joined the team and will support beneficiaries throughout project implementation.
Danute brings more than 15 years of professional experience in public administration and EU-funded project management. Before joining the Programme, she worked as a Project Coordinator at the Directorate of Aukštaitija Protected Areas in Lithuania, where she coordinated and monitored EU-funded projects. Throughout her career, Danutė has been actively involved in numerous Latvia-Lithuania cross-border cooperation projects under several generations of Interreg Latvia-Lithuania programmes. Her professional interests include project monitoring, environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, sustainable tourism, and regional development.
With a background in project management, Zanda Zuke has implemented and coordinated projects in the public, private, and NGO sectors, ensuring effective execution throughout the entire project lifecycle. Over several years, Zanda also gained valuable experience at the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia, organizing events and conferences, managing innovation & technology platform and provided support to entrepreneurs, thereby contributing to the development of entrepreneurship in Latvia.
Zanda believes that strong partnerships, mutual trust, and a shared vision are essential for achieving sustainable goals, fostering a cohesive and resilient society, and supporting the continued development of the Latvia and Lithuania regions.
