The common challenge faced by the project partners involve the fully unused potential of unique nature values targeting geological and geomorphological objects in Zemgale planning region (Latvia) and Siauliai and Panevezys regions (Lithuania) that have been formed in this area over the decades and centuries.
The overall objective of the project is to increase the number of visitors to this territory through creation of sustainable and cognitive tourism offer including geological and geomorphological objects and expositions, enhancement of the knowledge and competences of persons involved in tourism sector as well as promotion of the visibility and recognition of developed tourism offer.
The expected change the projects is going to make to the current situation involves the raise of number of visits and overnight stays of visitors in Zemgale, Siauliai and Panevezys regions.
The main project outputs of the project involve improved knowledge on the geotourism in partner regions of the tourism sector professionals and guides, developed new joint cross-border tourism root with innovative digital elements, created multifunctional cognitive velopark, informative stands and cognitive expositions near the geological and geomorphological objects, produced 3 video-clips promoting regional geotourism as well as organized tour action with interactive elements, promotional tour and various public events in the project territory to raise the awareness of the project issue. From the delivered main project outputs will benefit involved partner institutions, tourism sector professionals, general society as perspective tourists.
The approach that the project partners plan to take involves the gain of knowledge outside the Programme area and also the local good practices will be exploited, the transfer of the knowledge into training for tourism sector professionals and courses for guides in Latvia and Lithuania as well as the use of innovative methods to promote the visibility of developed tourism offer and attracts the tourists to the Programme territory.
The new and original about this project is that there is planned to identfy the unique geological and geomorphological objects in the involved partner regions, create new tourism offer as well as provide interactive digital solutions for educational and cognitive purposes of geological and geomorphological processes in project sites.
