Development of robotics and drone construction and piloting competencies as method of social inclusion in cross border regions of Latgale, Visaginas and Ignalina

Common territorial challenge (s) that will be tackled by the project

The Latgale region in Latvia, and Visaginas and Ignalina municipalities in Lithuania face common challenges in promoting the social inclusion of children and youth struggling with various addictions. Robotics and drone construction serve as powerful tool for social inclusion of this vulnerable group. However, professionals working with youth face a lack of knowledge in teaching robotics and drone technologies. There is a lack of equipment and of robotics and drone construction activities for at-risk youth.

Project objective

The project aims to promote social inclusion of at-risk children and youth up to the age of 21 who are struggling with addictions such as computer gaming, alcohol or drugs. This will be achieved through encouraging them to engage into robotics and drone construction activities.

Planned activities

The project partners will elaborate a methodological manual outlining methods for using robotics and drone construction as tool for social inclusion. Infrastructure of 15 educational institutions will be improved with new equipment, and 5 robotics competitions will be organised, benefiting about 500 children and young people. Additionally, training courses on robotics and drone construction will be organised for persons working with at-risk children and youth to enhance their skills and create a network for sharing best practices. The cross-border cooperation and sharing experience among various organisations with expertise in social inclusion will enable development and testing of a new social inclusion method. This method will help reintegrate at-risk children and youth into education and society while raising their interest in STEM fields.
