A new tourism map helps reclaim the lost heritage of Zemgale and Northern Lithuania

The Zemgale Planning Region, together with tourism centers and partners in Latvia and Northern Lithuania, has launched a new tourism map “Reclaimed History in Zemgale and Northern Lithuania. What once was lost, now is reclaimed”.

Would you like to see what the Iecava Manor or the Akmenė Synagogue once looked like — even though they no longer exist in reality? Experience a digital projection at Lielplatone Manor, where a piano performance is visually recreated to the music of 19th-century Franz Liszt, perfectly complementing the manor’s historical atmosphere? Perhaps encounter the ghost of Gārsene Castle — the Blue Lady? Or take a virtual walk through the old town of Rokiškis and the Rokiškis Manor?

The map offers an interactive way to explore the region’s cultural heritage — both preserved and lost — through digital solutions that bring historic sites back to life. Visitors can experience virtual reconstructions of vanished landmarks, enjoy immersive projections, and even create personalized routes for unique journeys into the past. Available in Latvian, Lithuanian, and English, the map is accessible both digitally and in print at local tourism centers.
