On September 9–10, an experience exchange visit took place in Kuldīga (Latvia) as part of the project “Restoration of Water Bodies through Cross-Border Cooperation.” A delegation from Šilutė District Municipality participated in the visit, where both partners discussed completed works, planned activities, and future opportunities for cooperation.
The Lithuanian delegation was welcomed by the Vice Mayor of Kuldīga District Artis Roberts and representatives of the Kuldīga Development Agency (Kuldīgas Attīstības Aģentūra). During the visit, the participants toured the restoration site of Māra Pond (Māras dīķis), where they were introduced to the work already completed, ecological balance restoration measures, and planned future actions.
In addition to the site visit, discussions focused on projects implemented and planned by Kuldīga Municipality, aimed at the revitalization of water bodies and the improvement of their environmental quality. The partners also explored future cooperation directions – ranging from joint ecological initiatives to the continuation of knowledge and experience exchange.
The project “Restoration of Water Bodies through Cross-Border Cooperation” is being implemented in Šilutė and Kuldīga, with the goal of restoring polluted and non-functional ponds. The activities include pond cleaning, introduction of new plant and fish species, development of monitoring systems, as well as educational and exchange events for local communities.
The partnership between Šilutė and Kuldīga municipalities is a strong example of how joint efforts and cross-border cooperation can help address environmental challenges, while at the same time strengthening regional ties, creating a more attractive living environment, and ensuring a sustainable future.
