Daugavpils City Government is pleased to announce the completion of infrastructure works at the Stropi forest ski track, marking an important step in improving the city’s winter tourism facilities and accessibility. The project included the construction of essential infrastructure and engineering communications required for the operation of an artificial snowmaking system. The site has now been officially accepted for use.
These developments were implemented within the framework of the Interreg VI-A Latvia–Lithuania Programme 2021–2027 project “Sustainable Cross-Border Cooperation for Winter Tourism Development” (SnowPower, No. LL-00123). The initiative aims to support the development of sustainable and inclusive winter tourism in both Daugavpils and Visaginas, Lithuania.
The completed works provide the technical foundation necessary for the future operation of a snowmaking machine, which will ensure reliable snow coverage even during milder winter conditions. This infrastructure will help extend the ski season and improve the overall quality and safety of the tracks for recreational users and athletes alike.
Together with improvements in Visaginas, these completed works contribute to stronger cross-border cooperation and expanded winter tourism opportunities for both local residents and visitors.
The total project budget for the SnowPower initiative is EUR 740 414.43, with EUR 592 331.54 co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
