On November 6th Large-scale field exercise took place in UAB Laveksa village, Joniskis district (Lithuania) in which participated firefighters from Lithuanian and Latvian. The main goal of these exercises is to improve the capabilities of the fire and rescue services in extinguishing peat fires, strengthening response capacities and ensure effective mutual cooperation.
During the exercises special attention was drawn to preparation for large-scale fires that can start in peat bogs, forests or nearby settlements. Practical actions helped to assess the readiness of forces for emergency situations, test the operation of communication systems and coordination between Lithuanian and Latvian services.
Training like these are crucial in ensuring an effective response to fires, which can have a profound impact on both the environment and local communities. Teamwork, trust, and good communication are key elements that allow firefighters and rescuers from both countries to work together and overcome challenges effectively.
Exercise have once again shown that the cooperation between Lithuanian and Latvian fire and rescue services is strong and the experience gained is invaluable in strengthening regional readiness to fight peat fires.
