The “WaterTour” project, No. LL-00134, continues to boost water tourism in Zemgale (Latvia) and Northern Lithuania. Key activities include the development of new water routes, improved infrastructure, and stronger cooperation between tourism service providers on both sides of the border.
The Directorate of Aukštaitija protected areas has completed one of the largest infrastructure installations for the Water Tour project in North Lithuania, and new infrastructure in the Anykščiai and Gražutė regional parks and the Biržai district is now available for all visitors. New information signs have been installed along the shore of the Šventoji River (32 signs), on the water route of the Gražutė Regional Park lakes (6 signs), and next to the Nemunėlis River water route (15 signs). In addition to the information signs, a visitor counter, warning signs, and marking buoys have been installed in Gražutė regional park.
In the summer of 2026, we plan to open the renewed water routes for the tourism season with three public events, including excursions and free kayak experiences in the Anykščiai and Gražutė regional parks and the Biržai district.
The project is funded by the Interreg VI-A Latvia and Lithuania Programme 2021-2027.
