Interactive stands installed in the Akmenė district – extinct heritage comes to life

,

Akmenė District Municipality, implementing the Interreg VI-A Latvia and Lithuania Programme 2021–2027 project “Reclaimed History” (No. LL-00061), is introducing a new feature – seven interactive stands have already been installed in the district. They provide visitors with the opportunity to see how cultural heritage sites that no longer exist or have deteriorated today looked in the past.

Standing at the stand, a reconstructed historical view opens up – a manor, synagogue or chapel becomes visible as they were (or could have been) during their lifetime. It is like a “window into the past”, allowing a tourist or guest of the region to clearly imagine what these places looked like decades or even centuries ago.

In addition, each stand has a QR code. By scanning it with a smartphone, you can read more information about the object or hear an audio narration. This provides even more opportunities to learn and understand the history of each object.

Seven stands are located in the following locations:

  • On the territory of the former Kruopiai manor, Akmenė district.
  • Dabikinė Manor, Liepų St., Akmenė District.
  • In the Paragiai Manor homestead, Paragiai village, Akmenė district.
  • Bažnyčios st., Klykoliai, Akmenė district.
  • Stoties st., Akmenė, Akmenė district.
  • Daukanto St., Papilė, Akmenė district.
  • Near Papilė 1st mound, S. Daukanto st., Papilė, Akmenė district.

These objects were chosen because of their importance to the history of the Akmenė district. Some of them have survived today only as ruins or have disappeared completely, which is why interactive stands become not only an attractive educational solution, but also an interesting tourist attraction.

We invite tourists and all those interested in history to visit these stands in the Akmenė district – take a journey back in time and discover the disappeared cultural heritage in a new, interactive way!
