Digitalization of the historical path of Preili Castle and Utena Manor to promote the development of tourism services in cultural heritage sites of Latvia and Lithuania

Common territorial challenge (s) that will be tackled by the project

The common territorial challenge is to preserve and sustainably develop cultural heritage objects to positively impact tourism flow in the Programme area and improve the well-being of local communities and inhabitants. Statistically visitors from Lithuania is one of the biggest tourist groups in Latvia, but mostly visiting the biggest cities - Riga, Liepāja, Ventspils, Daugavpils, Jelgava. With locations along the major roads, historical path, digital innovations and cross-border promotion and collaboration, both project partners - Preili Municipality and Utena Education Center can attract tourists to their area as the highest economic growth potential for both partners is within the tourism sector. These joint activities are only possible with cross-border cooperation.

Project objective

The “Historical path UP” project aims to enhance tourism services at the cross-border heritage sites of Preili Castle in Latvia and Utena Manor in Lithuania. By addressing shared challenges in preserving cultural heritage and improving tourism services, the project seeks to transform these historical sites into vibrant and accessible tourist attractions.

Planned activities

The project will utilize tourism, art, and education platforms while investing in technical solutions and modern technologies to attract tourists and engage local communities. Moreover, Preili Municipality Government and Utena Educational Centre will organize trainings, fairs, camps, and educational laboratories for tourism service providers, entrepreneurs, culture managers, artists, pupils, and students.

Project results

As a result, the “Historical path UP” project will promote cross-border understanding, respect for diversity, and appreciation of cultural heritage, traditions, and artistic expressions of the Latvia-Lithuania regions, contributing to regional development and tourism growth.
