On October 30, 2024, educators and language experts from Latvia and Lithuania gathered for the “Language Teaching Methods” conference, an event organized under the Interreg Latvia-Lithuania programme project LL-00055 “LingoKey: Language – a key for understanding your neighbor”. The conference served as a platform for language teachers, school leaders and researchers to discuss the evolving landscape of language education and to foster closer collaboration between Latvian and Lithuanian schools.
The event featured insightful presentations from experienced lecturers and dynamic discussions among participants. A wide range of topics were explored, including the unique challenges and opportunities of language teaching in Latvia and Lithuania, notable achievements in the field in development new teaching methods or curriculars, as well as innovative approaches to teaching. Particular attention was given to the transition away from Russian language teaching in schools, with an emphasis on leadership and strategic planning to navigate this change.
Participants also delved into contemporary methodologies that emphasize active and inclusive learning, promoting student engagement across diverse backgrounds. The discussions extended to the role of language education in developing citizenship and creativity competences, highlighting the broader societal impact of effective teaching practices.
The conference aimed to stimulate meaningful dialogue about the future of formal and non-formal language education while strengthening ties between the two neighboring communities.
