Visaginas enhances winter tourism with renovated ski slope and new four-wheeler

Interreg VI-A Latvia–Lithuania Programme 2021–2027 project “Sustainable cross border cooperation for winter tourism development” SnowPower, No. LL-00123, implemented by Daugavpils City Government together with Visaginas Municipality (Lithuania).

As part of the project, Visaginas Municipality has successfully renovated its ski slope and made a key investment to improve the infrastructure for winter and year-round use.

The municipality has purchased a versatile four-wheeler equipped with tracks, designed specifically for the preparation and maintenance of ski slopes. In the winter months, the four-wheeler will be used to prepare the slopes for skiing, ensuring optimal conditions for visitors.

“We are pleased to improve the infrastructure and offer our residents and guests opportunities to engage in a healthy and active lifestyle, as well as to ensure high-quality training and competition processes,” said a representative from the Visaginas Municipality.

The renovation of the ski slope, located in the scenic forest massif in Visaginas, was completed in October 2024. This investment enhances the city’s appeal as a winter tourism destination and invites locals and visitors alike to experience the joys of the season. With the recent improvements, the ski slope is now ready to welcome guests, but perhaps with just a bit of patience for more snow to enjoy all that it has to offer.

The project will continue cooperation between Daugavpils and Visaginas in the field of tourism by organising study visits and cross-border tourism marketing activities.

The total project budget is EUR 740 414.43. The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund with EUR 592 331.54.
