Revitalizing people-to-people interaction through youth engagement in traditional Lithuanian and Latvian culture activities

Common territorial challenge (s) that will be tackled by the project

The project partners from Tytuvėnai in Lithuania and Livani in Latvia face a common challenge of engaging youth in folk and traditional cultural activities. This is due to demographic changes with decreased youth population by 30% in Latvian and Lithuanian rural areas, economic barriers, lack of funding, infrastructure and limited cultural access, leading to youth migration to large cities and reduced participation in cultural activities.

Project objective

The project aims to increase youth engagement in folk and traditional cultural activities across Tytuvėnai and Livani by revitalising local initiatives and making them more attractive to young people.

Planned activities

To achieve this, the project employs a variety of methods, including capacity building among cultural stakeholders through targeted workshops and training sessions, the development of a methodology to attract youth, and its piloting through activities such as educational events in local schools, summer camps and community events. Additionally, the project organizes collaborative workshops to develop a joint Baltic folk program, which will be showcased through joint concerts and a closing festival. To attract young people, the project leverages social media campaigns and an interactive digital learning platform, complemented by the creation of short, engaging educational videos on folk dances and songs. By promoting cross-border cooperation the project is expected to foster a revitalized interest and active participation of youth in cultural activities, ensuring the long-term preservation and appreciation of regional cultural heritage.
