The lead partner, Preili Municipality Government, together with Lithuanian partners – the Utena Education Centre– started implementing the project No. LL-00091 “Digitalization of the historical path of Preili Castle and Utena Manor to promote the development of tourism services in cultural heritage sites of Latvia and Lithuania” (acronym: “Historical Path UP”) in the summer of 2024. The project was approved under Priority IV of the Latvia–Lithuania Programme 2021–2027.
The project’s aim is to improve tourism services at cross-border heritage sites – Preili Castle in Latvia and Utena Manor in Lithuania. By addressing shared challenges in cultural heritage preservation and tourism service development, the project strives to transform these historical sites into dynamic and accessible tourist destinations.
The project work plan foresees wider activities and public engagement in 2025. In the meantime, the partners are working on organizing procurements for equipment planned within the project and planning events. Joint meetings have already taken place among the project working group, fostering collaboration beyond the project itself.
In 2025, the project will provide for the acquisition of digital equipment for Preili Castle and Utena Manor, which will enable a wider range of uses for these sites and allow for the accommodation of larger audiences in renovated spaces. A series of cultural and educational events are planned with the involvement of local entrepreneurs. Cross-border cooperation opportunities will be presented and offered at Tourism and Art Fairs on both sides of the partnership, involving local craftsmen, home producers, and representatives of culture. The partners will also organize training for local businesses on current topics such as challenges of implementing the Green Deal and improving environmental accessibility at tourist sites. Cross-border connections will be strengthened by organizing an art pleneur air event in Preili in 2025, with participation from artists from both countries.
As a result of the project, cross-border understanding between the Latvia–Lithuania regions, the recognition of diversity, and the appreciation of cultural heritage, traditions, and artistic expressions will be promoted, contributing to regional development and tourism growth.
We invite you to follow the information and participate in the project activities!
