On April 24, 2025, the Director of SSCC “Kurzeme” Visvaldis Gutmanis, together with the Director of the Palanga “Pušynas” Rehabilitation Branch of the Republican Hospital of Klaipėda, Julius Tomas Žulkus, opened the Social Skills Laboratory in Liepaja. This social skills laboratory was created within the framework of the project „New look towards successful rehabilitation of vulnerable groups“ (INO REHAB, No. LL-00121).
Social skills are the tools that enable people to communicate, learn, ask for help, get needs met in appropriate ways, get along with others, make friends, develop healthy relationships, protect themselves, and in general, be able to interact with the society harmoniously in any life period. The social skills laboratory created by the SSCC “Kurzeme” is an empowerment of the home environment in the context of social inclusion. Therefore, this home environment and skills development for vulnerable people will be core factor for facilitating social inclusion in the society. The establishment of a social skills laboratory in the Liepāja branch of SSCC “Kurzeme” will give children, young people and adults the opportunity to grow and live-in conditions as close as possible to a family environment, where with the support of trained employees they will learn cooking, table culture, understanding of healthy nutrition, laundry and other independent skills on a daily basis life skill to prepare for life in society.
The plans now include organizing training for further work of specialists in the social skills laboratory.
