As part of the Interreg VI-A Latvia–Lithuania Programme 2021-2027 project “All about ponds” (LL-00049), Kuldīga municipality delegation participated in a one-day experience exchange visit in Šilutė district. The visit aimed to promote cross-border cooperation, exchange practical knowledge on sustainable pond management, and strengthen institutional relationships between Latvian and Lithuanian partners.
The delegation was welcomed by representatives of Šilutė district municipality, including the Mayor Vytautas Laurinaitis and the Deputy director of Administration Edita Šukytė. The meeting provided a platform for discussing municipal-level roles in environmental projects, best practices in governance, and the strategic significance of cross-border environmental collaboration.
During the visit, participants explored several project-related and environmentally significant sites. These included a visit to Hugo Scheu park, one of the active project „All about ponds“ sites, where project implementation activities were introduced and discussed. The delegation also toured a previously implemented Interreg V-A Latvia-Lithuania Programme 2014-2020 project site to observe the outcomes and long-term impact of earlier cooperation efforts. Further, the group visited the Nemunas delta regional park visitor centre, where they gained insights into regional biodiversity, conservation strategies, and environmental education. The exchange concluded with a field trip to Aukštumala Swamp, offering participants an in-depth view of Lithuania’s unique wetland ecosystems and their relevance to climate and biodiversity objectives.
The experience exchange visit fostered mutual learning and strengthened the foundation for future cooperation between project partners. It underscored the importance of joint efforts in addressing shared environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development across borders.
