Water Tourism Seminar Held in Kurzeme: Focus on Development and Safety

On June 5, 2025, the recreational complex “Usmas Meķi” in Renda, Kuldīga Municipality, hosted the seminar “News and Trends of Watertourism in Kurzeme” organized by Kurzeme Planning Region and attended by more then 30 water tourism specialists and enthusiasts. The event aimed to promote water tourism development, improve safety aspects, and strengthen cooperation among industry representatives.

The seminar featured presentations on current water tourism projects by Kurzeme Planning Region and practical insights from Ozolaivas.lv on organizing safe boating trips. Representatives from Dienvidkurzeme, Ventspils, Kuldīga, Talsi and Saldus municipalities shared their experiences, current initiatives, and challenges related to water tourism in their respective regions.

Special attention was given to improving river accessibility, developing routes, and the need for consistent safety standards in boating. Participants actively engaged in discussions and had the opportunity to visit the local company “Usmas Meķi”.

The event was organized within the framework of the Interreg VI-A Latvia–Lithuania Programme 2021–2027 project “Development of the Water Route Network in Latvia and Lithuania by Expanding the Cross-Border Tourism Product www.riverways.eu”/WaterWays (LL-00011).
