Two “WaterWays” project seminars was held to promote sustainable water tourism

As part of the implementation of project LL-00011 “Development of the water routes network in Latvia and Lithuania by further expanding the cross-border tourism product www.riverways.eu” (WaterWays), two seminars were held in Lithuania to discuss important issues related to the safe and sustainable reception of kayaking tourists.

The first seminar took place on May 15 in the Anykščiai district. The theme of the event was “How to Welcome Kayakers Safely and Ecologically.” This topic is particularly relevant with the summer season approaching, as the number of outdoor recreation enthusiasts continues to grow. The seminar addressed the principles of safe and environmentally responsible tourism, legal aspects, liability issues, and common practical situations encountered by tourism service providers.

The second seminar was held on June 12 in the Radviliškis district. This session continued the discussion on sustainable kayaking tourism, with a particular focus on the protection of rivers and shorelines, balancing the interests of local communities, and promoting
effective cooperation between tourism service providers and local authorities. The event stood out for its engaging discussions, with active participation from both tourism professionals and local stakeholders.

During the seminars, the Lithuanian Countryside Tourism Association also presented its “Safe and Green” concept, designed to promote responsible and environmentally friendly recreation in rural areas. You can learn more about this initiative here.

We sincerely thank all participants for their engagement, for sharing their experiences, and for their contribution to building more sustainable tourism.
