A glance at the culinary world of Latvia

The project “Culinary tourism development through modern taste of traditional Lithuanian and Latvian cuisine”, acr. “Taste the history”, No. LL-00224 is gaining momentum, so the project partners are implementing the first activities planned in the project. The project’s history, gastronomy and heritage experts are already working on historical archives and information about culinary heritage, while employees of the project partners (Šiauliai Tourism Information Centre, Šiauliai Technology Training Center, Daugavpils Tourism Information Centre and Daugavpils Technology and Tourism Technical School), together with representatives of catering establishments and the media, on 26-27th of June, 2025 gathered for an experience exchange trip in Latvia. The Daugavpils Tourism Information Center organized an experience exchange trip, during which we visited facilities located in Vidzeme offering educational and tasting entertainment. We tasted it ourselves, watched how the tastings are conducted, what is most emphasized, how the heritage is presented, ancient dishes, long-standing traditions, history, and also inseparable everyday life.

One of the places to visit was the goat farm “Livi”, where cheese is made. It would seem nothing impressive and unexpected, but the dishes served during the tasting left an impression – individual, exclusive, not seen anywhere else, and by the way – made in Lithuania, which makes our both countries even more connected. Most of the experience trip participants agreed that such a presentation is eye-catching and memorable.

We visited many other places, and we will continue our experience and draw ideas in Lithuania. One of the main goals of this project is education and tasting by bringing dishes of the culinary heritage of Lithuania and Latvia to a second, modern life, so knowledge, experience and new ideas are really important!
