The Border Focal Point Network (hereinafter – BFPN), in cooperation with the European Commission’s DG REGIO, has launched the first call for applications for its newly enhanced Cross-Border Ambassadors initiative (hereinafter – programme).
What is the Cross-Border Ambassadors initiative?
The programme aims to engage young people aged 18–30 who live in or have a strong connection to European border regions, offering them the opportunity to represent their regions, to speak up for their communities, raise awareness about cross-border issues, and contribute to EU-level dialogue. They will have the possibility to work alongside European Commission officials and fellow Ambassadors. Up to 10 Ambassadors will be selected to join this programme, contributing to a stronger, more inclusive, and better integrated Europe.
Selected Ambassadors will take part in a six-month mandate from 29 September 2025 to 31 March 2026, which includes:
- Monthly online meetings with DG REGIO and the BFPN team
- Contribution to the BFPN’s communications activities, including content on Futurium, social media, and newsletter features
- Selection of at least one personal focus activity, such as:
- Creating short-form video content (e.g. vox pops, explainer videos)
- Producing a podcast episode on youth and cross-border cooperation
- Organising a local event or cultural exchange in a border region
- Writing a short report or policy brief with recommendations.
In addition, Ambassadors will be invited to participate in Beyond Borders: Breakfast Debates, collaborate with other EU youth initiatives, and may be featured in EU policy events or communications. All participants will receive a Certificate of Completion signed by DG REGIO.
Who can apply?
Applications are open to motivated young people who:
- Are aged 18–30 at the time of application
- Live in an EU Member State or EFTA country (including Latvia and Lithuania) and have a strong connection to a border region
- Are fluent in English (knowledge of other EU languages is an asset)
- Have a genuine interest in European territorial cooperation, cross-border policy, or local engagement
- Are ready to commit approximately 2 days per month from September 2025 to March 2026.
