Environmental Volunteer Crowd Work in Labanoras Regional Park

About the site

Within a 2-hectare site lies a remarkable natural treasure: three types of grassland habitats of European importance – Molinia meadows (6410), Lowland hay meadows (6510), and Species-rich Nardus grasslands (6230). The area also hosts populations of the scarce fritillary butterfly (Euphydryas aurinia), highlighting its biodiversity and ecological significance.

Planned activities

For many years, these meadows were abandoned. Thanks to the initiative of a local farmer, it was grazed this year. The next step is to remove shrubs and woody vegetation so the meadows can thrive again. In cooperation with foresters from the Januliškis Forest District (State Forest Enterprise, Švenčionėliai branch), the overgrown vegetation will be cut down. Volunteers will help by gathering and burning branches to ensure the area remains clear for future care.

Why it matters

By taking part, you will contribute to the restoration and preservation of three grassland habitats of exceptional European importance. This effort is not only work for nature – it is an investment in biodiversity that matters to Lithuania and to Europe as a whole. The area supports many species that depend on human care and responsible management.
