Garden Arrangement Event in Latvia – for Community Building and Social Inclusion

On September 17, 2025, an open Garden Arrangement and Opening Event took place at the State Social Care Center “Latgale”, Kalupe branch (Latvia) as part of the international project
“Enhancing Social Inclusion and Empowerment of Vulnerable Groups through Integrated and Creative Methodologies.”

The event brought together around 40 participants from various institutions, including:

  • Šiauliai City Municipal Nursing Home (Lithuania),
  • SSC “Latgale” branches – Kalupe, Krastiņi, Kalkūni,
  • Social Service Center “Pīlādzis” (Upper Daugava Region),
  • Group apartments “Nīcgale”,
  • Pupils from Kalupe elementary school.

Together, participants planted a vibrant garden filled with trees, bushes, and flowers – turning the space into more than just a physical environment, but a symbol of cooperation, creativity, and inclusion.

This activity served as a flexible, work-based engagement for participants, helping to strengthen social ties, promote well-being, and encourage active participation in community life.

The new garden will become a welcoming, open space – a place for meeting, relaxation, peace, joy, and continuous learning. It will be available not only to the institution’s residents but also to the broader local community.

Such initiatives are a meaningful example of how we can foster inclusion, empowerment, and a sense of belonging through creative and nature-based methods.
