Join the Boating Trip and Discover the Values of the Daugava River!

To promote sustainable tourism development and active recreation, within the project No. LL-00134 “Promotion of Sustainable Water Tourism in the Lithuania–Latvia Cross-Border Region by Involving Local Entrepreneurs and Communities” (WaterTour), a public boating event will take place on 13 September, popularizing the route “Discover the Values of the Daugava River.”

The boating trip is organized by Aizkraukle Local Municipality with the involvement of a professional service provider, ensuring all technical requirements, equipment, and safety standards.

The route, with a total length of 19 km, will start at 10:00 from the camping site “Annas Klints” in Pļaviņas and will finish around 17:00 at the boat pier “Gundegas” in Koknese. During the day, while enjoying the Daugava’s scenic landscapes and active leisure, participants will have the chance to take part in guided excursions in Vīgante Park and the Likteņdārzs Memorial Garden, as well as learn about natural values and tourism attractions along the riverbanks.

Participation is open to adults and children aged 12 years and above. Children under 16 may join only when accompanied by parents or with a written confirmation from parents about the child’s physical preparedness and basic paddling skills. Free two-seater canoes/kayaks will be available for the boating trip. Since the number of boats and seats is limited, participation is possible only by prior registration via an online form or by phone. The digital application form and detailed event information will be published on 1 September on Aizkraukle Local Municipality’s website www.aizkraukle.lv, the tourism website www.visitaizkraukle.lv, and the municipality’s social media accounts.

As part of the event, on the same day visitors will also be able to enjoy free boat trips with the vessel “Sēlis” from Koknese Medieval Castle ruins. The boat will operate every 30 minutes between 13:00 and 17:00, offering views of the Koknese Castle ruins, Likteņdārzs, and Koknese Evangelical Lutheran Church from the water. Participation is available in order of arrival, with no prior registration required.

Please follow the municipality’s communication channels for updates, as the event may be rescheduled in case of strong winds or unfavorable weather conditions.
