Lithuanian and Latvian youth engaged in the healthy lifestyle promotion during the summer camps

In August this year, the Public Health Office of Akmene District Municipality, as part of the project “Active Community Engagement for Healthy Lifestyles”, ran two 5-day free youth health camps in the Akmenė region, Lithuania. At the same time, another project partner, Daugavpils City Government, also organized two 5-day camps. Representatives from both countries participated in the simultaneous camps, which allowed them to learn about healthy lifestyles, interact with each other, and learn about different Lithuanian and Latvian cultures and ways of wellness.

The first group of young people attended the camp from 14 to 18 August, and the second from 18 to 22 August.

During the camp, young people had the opportunity to try out a wide range of activities: to meet and communicate with other peers, to learn first aid through practical exercises, to make their own unique T-shirts in the camp’s memories workshop, to be reminded of the great time they had together, to talk about healthy diet, emotions and their management, and to go on excursions to the surrounding regions and places of interest. In addition, young people tried new physical activities and outdoor games. Finally, after a busy day of thinking and processing information, youth relaxed in yoga classes, breathing sessions and a sound journey. The young people went home full of excitement and, most importantly, gained new knowledge and skills about healthy eating, exercise and healthy lifestyles.
