The active autumn session of the campaign “Become an Alley Detective!”, implemented by the Green Guardians project partners, has concluded. In the campaign residents of the Project area were invited to report on tree alleys and the response was particularly high – reports were received about 228 alleys in Kurzeme and 54 alleys in North Lithuania.

The project partners thank every participant who took the time and became an alley detective!

Each submitted report helps to collect data on the alleys, understand the condition of the alleys, their cultural and historical significance, and plan the necessary conservation measures in the future.

Work continues – the campaign will be continued next spring

Although the autumn session has ended, the project team believes that there are even more alleys in Kurzeme and Northern Lithuania, so the campaign “Become an alley detective!” will continue next spring. It is most convenient to submit new reports in the spring, when the trees begin to thrive, the silhouettes of the alleys become clearer and it is possible to more accurately assess the tree species, condition of the alleys and biodiversity. However, the participatory GIS survey is open all year round – it is also possible to join the initiative during the winter months.

We invite residents and local communities to pay attention to the nearest alleys in your area and actively participate in the campaign again in the spring.

Here are maps where it is possible to see the already reported alleys as green dots and the added pictures of alleys:

During the winter period, the project team will analyze and process the data already received, while in the spring and summer of next year, it is planned to conduct surveys of the most valuable alleys in Project area.
