One of the milestones for the WaterTour project is enhancing water tourism with the development of a comprehensive tourism strategy for the Daugava River and its coastal areas.
The strategy, meticulously crafted to promote local tourism hotspots along the Daugava River, will play a pivotal role in attracting water tourists. It is structured into three key sections: an assessment of the current situation, strategic development directions, and an actionable plan. These components will guide the effective promotion and management of the Daugava River as a prime water tourism destination.
The development of this strategy will be coordinated by one of the project partners Jekabpils County Municipality, but the document will serve broader interests of tourism information centers, municipality affiliates and other related stakeholders. The strategy’s reach extends to tourism service providers, such as boating entrepreneurs and guest houses in the nearby locations of Daugava river, who will benefit directly from its implementation.
The strategy, anticipated to be in effect for up to seven years, will lay the groundwork for future activities including the establishment of boating routes, construction of pontoons and installation of signage. These initiatives aim to improve infrastructure and promote a well-developed tourism environment.
In addition to the immediate benefits for local tourism service providers and residents, the strategy is expected to foster regional cooperation and serve as a pilot project for other municipalities. It will be publicly accessible via the Jekabpils municipality’s official website, ensuring transparency and engagement with the broader community. The document will be also shared with wide public and stakeholders of the WaterTour project.
