The creation of the autonomous use sensory rehabilitation method has been accelerated in two project partners institutions – in State Social Care Center “Kurzeme” (further – SSCC “Kurzeme”) and in Palanga “Pušynas” Rehabilitation Branch of the Republican Hospital of Klaipėda.
During the project „New look towards successful rehabilitation of vulnerable groups“ (INO REHAB, No. LL-00121) the practical methodological guide for constructing social skills via autonomous use of Sensory islands, Sensory Gardens and the Social Skills Laboratory towards betterment of social inclusion in the society will be prepared. Methodology of autonomous use of sensory rehabilitation suggests the new approach of (re-)abilitation where patient will take also an active role under the supervision of medical professional due to new methodology. The aim is to have guide for professionals for training social skills and supporting autonomous development of patient. A few years ago, the Sensory Garden method was already developed at the Palanga “Pušynas” Rehabilitation Branch of the Republican Hospital of Klaipėda (Sensory Gardens, LLI-445). During this project, SSCC “Kurzeme” has started to adopting and applying this Sensory Garden method in the “Iļgi” branch. Installation work has begun, and project partners have begun exchanging best practices and experiences related to the Sensory Garden method.
SSCC “Kurzeme” also shares good practices on how to improve the accessibility of social and rehabilitation services for their patients, especially for the disabled and visually impaired. Many years ago, SSCC “Kurzeme” installed the Braille handrails in some branches. Since 2019 Palanga “Pušynas” Rehabilitation Branch of the Republican Hospital of Klaipėda started to provide rehabilitations services for people with visual impairments. Now, the good practices of SSCC “Kurzeme” are being adopted by the Palanga “Pušynas” Rehabilitation Branch – the Braille handrails were installed. Also, for better accessibility of rehabilitation services for vulnerable people the elevator was installed in Palanga “Pušynas” Rehabilitation Branch.
Projects are the best way to exchange good practices!
