Seminar on climate change and flood risk coordination

During second project implementation period, on 4th of December in Jelgava region was held a seminar dedicated to climate change and flood risk management, in which participated employees of the Zemgale regional administration of the State Fire and Rescue Service of the Republic of Latvia, Klaipėda district administration of the Fire and Rescue Department of the Ministry of the Interior of Lithuania and representatives of Zemgale’s municipalities.

Representatives of Jēkabpils region and Jelgava state city, as well as the employees of State Fire and Rescue Service shared their real experience in overcoming natural disasters caused by climate change. Was outlined course of events, challenges and lessons learned in overcoming the Jēkabpils flood of January 2023 and the flood of late July and early August 2024 in Jelgava. Representatives of the Lithuanian rescue service informed about their experience in overcoming floods.

As part of the seminar there were also speakers presenting weather observations, their changes and the possible development of the situation in the future; urban wastewater and sewerage systems and their operating principles; the impact of the weather on the fire protection situation in the forest and the monitoring possibilities, in order to be able to identify and predict the possible outbreak and development of fires and more.
