During the project “New look towards successful rehabilitation of vulnerable groups” (INO REHAB, No. LL-00121), a social inclusion measure will be developed – the autonomous use of the sensory rehabilitation method.
To implement this method, construction of the Sensory Garden at the “Iļģi” branch of the State Social Care Center “Kurzeme” began in early May 2025. The sensory garden method is an approach to designing and using an environment—usually a garden or specially arranged outdoor space—created to stimulate all of a person’s senses: sight, hearing, smell, touch, and taste. This method is often used for children and adults with special needs, seniors, and people with autism spectrum disorders or dementia, but it can also be beneficial for anyone seeking stress relief and sensory stimulation.
The first outlines of the Sensory Garden are already visible in the “Iļģi” manor park. The first zone of the garden has been completed, and construction of the second zone is actively underway. This second zone will include musical instruments, outdoor exercise equipment, and other activity areas.
Once the Sensory Garden infrastructure is completed, both a one-day theory-based training and a one-day practical training will be organized. The practical training will take place in Palanga and will be delivered to project partner specialists in Palanga sensory garden. The partners will also exchange experience and best practices related to the sensory garden method.
