As part of the project „New look towards successful rehabilitation of vulnerable groups“ (INO REHAB, No. LL-00121), on 11 and 14 July, 2025 two-day training for VSAC “Kurzeme” employees took place at the Liepāja branch and in the newly established social skills laboratory facilities. The training, titled “Acquisition and Practical Application of Structured Teaching Skills,” focused on improving clients’ social and daily living skills, based on the use of social cognition and social skills in real-life social situations.
On the first day of the training, participants acquired theoretical knowledge and an introduction to TEACCH structured teaching. On the second day, the theoretical knowledge gained was applied to acquire practical skills in using elements of the TEACCH methodology for teaching social and daily living skills to persons with severe intellectual disabilities.
The main goal of the training is to acquire the principles of structured teaching in working with persons with severe intellectual disabilities, in order to motivate and engage clients in improving their social and daily living skills, based on real-life situations.
The knowledge gained will be applied in the acquisition of social skills to ensure the organization of the learning environment and the structuring of tasks in a way that is clear and easy to carry out for persons with intellectual disabilities. The TEACCH methodology will ensure environmental and task structuring, an individual approach, the use of support materials and visual aids, the development of social skills and improvement of communication, as well as the promotion of self-help and independence.
Independence is the path to self-confidence!
