Table-Top Exercises for Peat Fire Management Planned in Siauliai

A crucial preparatory event took place on March 20th and 21st in Siauliai, where Lithuanian and Latvian emergency response teams gathered to draft scenarios for upcoming table-top exercises on peat fire management. This event forms a key part of the cross-border PEATFIRE project, aimed at enhancing capabilities in managing peat fires.

Experts from both countries participated, working collaboratively to analyze and plan the exercises scheduled to be held in Daugavpils, Latvia. These exercises are critical not only for refining practical skills but also for improving the understanding and coordination of cross-border emergency operations in the event of peat fires.

All activities, including the planning of these exercises and their future execution, are supported under the PEATFIRE project within the Interreg VI-A Latvia–Lithuania Programme 2021–2027. The project’s goal extends beyond upgrading equipment and response strategies. It also aims to foster a closer cooperation culture among the emergency services of the neighboring countries.

The Fire Protection and Rescue Department is committed to providing ongoing support and resources to ensure our teams are fully prepared to meet any challenges. Additionally, the project includes an active public awareness campaign focused on peat fire prevention and readiness for emergencies.

Further information about the project and the forthcoming exercises will be provided soon, also on social media channels.
