The first period of the project “The foundation of future skills – knowledge and capacity in the field of STEAM” (fit4future) is coming to an end.
As the rapid development of technology and the lack of understanding of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) pose increasing challenges, the project aims to raise awareness of STEAM, increase the capacity of project partners and improve and diversify STEAM provision in their educational institutions.
During the first period of the project, a number of key activities have taken place which have steered the project towards achieving its objectives. The Kick-off event took place in Jelgava, where the partners met to get to know each other, discuss the project activities and the first steps in its implementation. After the successful Kick-off, further work has started.
The Zemgale Planning Region has procured an education expert to develop a questionnaire to describe good practices, which the selected expert is already working on. The expert will also be responsible for other tasks, such as recommending successful cooperation and communication between the project partners in the STEAM field after the end of the project in order to launch the STEAM ecosystem in the border region, as well as providing suggestions and guidance as needed to achieve the project objectives.
In addition, project partners from Lithuania have already started teaching students. The project activities started even before the summer holidays – 7th grade students of Biržai “Aušra” primary school already visited the Utena STEAM open access center, where they participated in different activities: “Creating animation games”, “Smart house of the future”, “Asteroids – interesting, mysterious, dangerous” and “Master automatic pipettes”. During the activities, students got acquainted with the laws of natural sciences, engineering, mathematics, technology and the latest inventions, independently experimented and created.
