The picturesque Lapiai village was chosen as the WaterWays project meeting place

On February 12-13, the Interreg Latvia-Lithuania Programme 2021-2027 project’s No. LL-00011 “Development of the water routes network in Latvia and Lithuania by further expanding the cross-border tourism product www.riverways.eu” (acronym – WaterWays) partners’ meeting took place in Lithuania. This meeting, organized in the village of Lapiai in the Klaipėda region gathered together representatives from Kurzeme Planning Region, Saldus County Municipality, Talsi County Municipality, Kuldīga County Municipality, Central Administration of Liepāja, Klaipeda District Municipality, Kretinga District Municipality Administration and Lithuanian Countryside Tourism Association.

During the meeting, participants discussed the progress and latest updates of the project, as well as explored joint solutions to improve implementation efficiency and achieve better results. The project will continue for another year, during which infrastructure and accessibility improvements will be carried out at six water bodies in Kurzeme and the Klaipėda region. Additionally, 300 lakes and over 30 rivers in Kurzeme, Latgale, Zemgale, and Lithuania will be surveyed, leading to the creation of a comprehensive and useful lake tourism guide. Furthermore, the upesoga.lv website will be significantly enhanced with new water tourism offers and opportunities in Latvia and Lithuania. The project is implemented with the support of the Interreg Latvia-Lithuania Programme.
