Empowering Everyone: Advancing Family Digital Activity Hubs in Latvia and Lithuania

Common territorial challenge (s) that will be tackled by the project

Eastern Aukštaitija in Lithuania and Southern Latgale in Latvia face significant challenges, including high unemployment, cultural diversity, and digital skills barriers that limit access to education. Libraries in Utena, Zarasai, Daugavpils, and Preili have previously worked to address these issues through Family Digital Activity Centers (DigiHubs). However, challenges remain, such as limited accessibility for people with special needs, the arrival of vulnerable groups like refugees, and outdated technology.

Project objective

This project aims to adapt and expand the DigiHub model to better serve these groups by focusing on enhancing social integration and digital literacy. It will achieve this through tailored educational content, advanced technologies, and tools that promote inclusivity and cultural awareness.

Planned activities

The project partners together will develop an interactive book suitcase, an educational wall, a virtual reality film to foster empathy, and an interactive quiz tool. Alongside these innovative solutions, 100 librarians and educators will gain from experience exchange, and 50 will enhance qualifications. The project uniquely combines advanced digital tools with local cultural heritage to empower vulnerable groups, helping them to gain skills, reduce isolation, and integrate into society. This cross-border initiative emphasises the vital role of libraries in improving digital accessibility, well-being, education, and fostering long-term social impact.
