The foundation of future skills – knowledge and capacity in the field of STEAM

Common territorial challenge (s) that will be tackled by the project

The extremely rapid development of technology, together with insufficient understanding of the importance of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics), creates more and more challenges. Zemgale planning region, together with the municipalities of Bauska, Pakruojis and Biržai, has developed a project with the aim of improving understanding of STEAM, increasing the project partners` capacity, and improving and diversifying the STEAM offer in their educational institutions. Within the framework of the project, the creation of the STEAM ecosystem will be launched in order to promote the cooperation of schools, municipalities, higher education institutions, entrepreneurs, NGOs, taking into account both current and future needs.

Project objective

The overall objective of the project is to use innovative methods and collaboration tools to strengthen the capacity of educational specialists and students and support better cooperation in the field of STEAM.

Planned activities

The following activities are planned within the project: - experience exchange, study visits, training for education specialists; networking event ''Tech Camp'' for education specialists; round table discussions in order to obtain a clear overview of the current situation throughout the project territory, on how to improve the teaching of STEAM subjects ; training cycles and interdisciplinary STEAM workshop for students; student-entrepreneur networking events; joint STEAM summer camp for students; equipment and digital tools will be purchased for project partners` schools; the guidelines for communication, strengthening cooperation, compilation of good practice will be developed in both languages (LV, LT); information about the project and its activities will be distributed regularly.

Project results

LP Zemgale planning region, PP2 Bauska municipality, PP3 Pakruojis municipality and PP4 Biržai municipality will cooperate during the project implementation and also as minimum a year after the project end. As a result of the project, the cooperation of 4 institutions will be established and the creation of a cross-border STEAM ecosystem will be started. This will improve the quality of the educational offer, promote the exchange of good practices and know-how between institutions, and improve cooperation between the municipality, parents, educational institutions, entrepreneurs, NGOs.
