Enhancing Urban Resilience with Climate Adaptive Green Space Planning in Latvia and Lithuania

Common territorial challenge (s) that will be tackled by the project

Latvia and Lithuania faced common challenges related implementation of new EU policies related to green infrastructure and climate change adaptive green spaces. These include integrating sustainable practices into local strategies and planning documents, as well as landscape and construction projects. However, there is a lack of knowledge and skills among municipal and sector specialists.

Project objective

The project aims to increase number of municipal and sector specialists in the Latvia-Lithuania Programme area who understand and apply innovative, research-based solutions for climate change resilient urban greenery. This will help local authorities better incorporate EU environmental strategies into planning and design.

Planned activities

The project will bring together Latvian and Lithuanian universities to share expertise and ensure a cross-sectoral approach. Activities will focus on selecting suitable plant species for urban areas, creating biodiversity-rich green systems. The project partners will develop and test training programme, methodical materials and manual for municipal and sector specialists. Also, the newly installed demonstration pilot area in Jelgava and animated infographic videos will be used for education and public awareness raising.
