“Together in Art” Project Fosters Cross-Border Cooperation at Ceramics Workshop in Latvia

From June 27–29, a three-day joint ceramics workshop was held in Ludza and Rogovka, organized by the “Together in Art” (LL-00146) project. The event aimed to strengthen the ties between the communities of Molėtai and Ludza, promoting better cultural understanding through art.

The workshop, which was part of the “Joint Capacity Building for Better Cultural Understanding through Art” project, began in Ludza, where participants visited the Ludza Museum of Local History. They later traveled to the Kārsava Culture Centre and Nautrēni. The first day culminated in a masterclass with ceramic artists Mairita Folkmanis and Ivo Folkmanis at the “Jaungailumos” studio, followed by ceramic kiln firing.

On the second day, participants engaged in two different workshops: “Ice and Wax” with Sandra Vorkale and “Fluid Acrylic” with Iveta Ladusane. In the afternoon, they joined a local event dedicated to famous Latgalian people named Peters from Rogovka and enjoyed a concert by local music groups.

On the final day of the workshop, participants unloaded the fired ceramic pieces from the kiln and took part in the St. Peter’s Day celebrations in Rogovka. During the festivities, the “Lotigola” motorcycle club entered the town center, and children enjoyed bouncy castles and clay workshops.

This event underscored the importance of art as a medium capable of uniting communities through shared experiences and successfully contributed to the goals of the “Together in Art” project.
