Water Tourism Development and Cross-Border Cooperation

The “WaterTour” project continues to boost water tourism in Zemgale (Latvia) and Northern Lithuania. Key activities include the development of new water routes, improved infrastructure, and stronger cooperation between tourism service providers on both sides of the border.

This summer, water tourism enthusiasts will have access to practical materials and events, including a paddling event on the Daugava River. One major outcome is a comprehensive water tourism guide featuring 84 routes across 24 rivers, available in Latvian, Lithuanian, and English.

On June 12, a seminar in Sēlpils brought together local tourism professionals to discuss the project’s progress, including the Daugava River strategy and the platform www.upesoga.lv.

Upcoming events include the “Daugavas krāču reids” paddling rally on July 26, video productions showcasing regional routes, a publicity campaign, and a cross-border meeting in autumn to evaluate results and plan future cooperation.

The project aims to promote sustainable water tourism, improve key locations, and engage local communities and businesses.
