Building Better Understanding Between Moletai and Ludza Through Music and Art

Common territorial challenge (s) that will be tackled by the project

The project implementation will tackle the following issues: 1. Music students from different backgrounds face difficulties acquiring musical instruments. Consequently, they can only join a choir and cannot play any musical instrument. Moreover, they cannot acquire knowledge and skills regarding traditional music or songs. Project implementation will allow including all students from different backgrounds in project activities. 2. Art students with different knowledge faces difficulties in getting acquainted with different art and art techniques that are traditionally used in Balti art. 3. Teachers from Lithuania and Latvia need new approaches, ideas, and creative methods while sharing experience with colleagues abroad.

Project objective

The overall objective of the project is to tackle mutual challenges caused by changes of population structure by building joint networks for better quality of public services in Molėtai and Ludza regions through providing higher quality educational services. Strategic objective seeks to gain benefit for broader variety of population in the long run: as mutual activities cover the exchange of cultural aspects the better understanding between two neighbouring countries will be achieved.

Planned activities

During the implementation of the project, two main work plans were envisioned: joint capacity building for enhanced Cultural Understanding through music and joint capacity building for improved Cultural Understanding through art. The primary activities aimed at fostering Cultural Understanding through music include the creation of new arrangements for traditional Lithuanian and Latvian music compositions. Participants will not only learn these arrangements but also perform them during concerts in Molėtai and Ludza. Additionally, teachers and students will attend various masterclasses, facilitating both improved communication and performance skills. The masterclasses will encompass a range of musical disciplines, such as orchestra, choir, vocal solos, piano, wind instruments and wind band, violin, and accordion. For the enhancement of Cultural Understanding through art, the main activities include online seminars titled "Clay - Conversation with Yourself and with the World," joint lessons for experience exchange in Moletai, workshops in Krāslava and Liepāja, and pottery workshops tailored for the local inhabitants in Ludza and Rogovka. Furthermore, an experiential trip to Vilnius is planned to provide participants with a broader cultural perspective.
